Prisions and society is a photojournalism project as part of the social research ”Last days od ‘Devil Caldrom’: visual narrative about a extinguishing prisional community”.
This photodocumentary and research have been taking into central prision João Chaves, at Natal, Brazil. Choosing B&W Photography as support to this visual narrative is a closing-up to Classical Photojournalism. A monochromatic ambiance of the theme, plus spoken photographic ”truth” of B&W pictures were important to essay concept.
The focus os ”Prisions and Society” is a visual narrative to study prisional institutions and relate them to societies who have created them. Cultural behaviors and customs of prisional communities may show the key to undesrtand a little more about social and cultural structures of each society and its prisional systems.
